Living in Wongamat: what it's actually like

The quiet end of Pattaya — what it costs, how days work and who the neighbourhood suits.

Pattaya's calm side

Updated October 2026

Wongamat is the beach on the Naklua side, five minutes north of central Pattaya and a world apart from it: a swimmable bay lined with condos and beach clubs, the Sanctuary of Truth at one end, seafood piers and Lan Pho market inland. It's where long-stayers, families and retirees settle.

This is our honest resident's guide — budgets, logistics and trade-offs. Wongamat Group handles the whole move when you want it: the visa, the home and the car.

The neighbourhood

Beach life without the bar-street noise.

The beach

Wong Amat is the cleanest stretch of sand in Pattaya proper — quiet mornings, beach clubs like the Glass House Silver crowd by afternoon, calm swimmable water most of the year.

Naklua, the Thai side

Lan Pho market, the fishing pier's seafood restaurants and old-town food streets are the everyday Thailand many expats move here for.

Five minutes to town

Terminal 21, cinemas and central Pattaya's restaurants are one short drive or baht-bus ride south — close enough to use, far enough not to hear.

The trade-off

Wongamat itself is residential: a handful of restaurants and 7-Elevens. For nightlife or big-mall errands you go to town.

A realistic monthly budget

Single person or couple, 2026 prices.

Rent

Studios ฿12,000–18,000, one-bedrooms ฿18,000–35,000, sea-view and family units ฿45,000–150,000 — see our rentals for live prices.

Utilities

Electricity is the big one — ฿2,000–5,000 with daily aircon; water is trivial; fibre internet about ฿500–700.

Food

Thai meals ฿60–120 at Naklua market and local spots; western restaurants ฿300–800 a head; delivery apps cover the area well.

Getting around

Baht buses and Grab/Bolt for short hops; a rented car ฿15,000–25,000 a month or a scooter ฿2,500–3,500 — we arrange monthly car rental.

The practical stuff

What long-stayers ask us most.

Healthcare

Bangkok Hospital Pattaya and Pattaya International are 10–15 minutes away — international-standard private care at Thai prices.

Schools

Regents International and Rugby School Thailand are 25–40 minutes; several bilingual schools sit closer in town.

Airports

U-Tapao is about 45 minutes; Suvarnabhumi (Bangkok) about 1h45 by car — we arrange transfers.

Visas

Retirement, LTR, DTV or business — see our visa guide; it's the first thing to settle and we handle the paperwork with you.

Living here — common questions

Is Wongamat quiet at night?

Yes — it's the residential end of Pattaya. Beach clubs wind down by evening; the loud nightlife is a 10-minute drive south and stays there.

Do I need a car in Wongamat?

Not strictly — baht buses and ride apps cover daily life. Most long-stayers end up renting a car monthly for big shops, golf and trips; a scooter fills the small gaps.

Is it good for families?

Very — the swimmable beach, low traffic on the sois, family complexes like Club Royal, and international schools within a 25–40 minute run make it Pattaya's main family pocket alongside Jomtien.

Wongamat or Jomtien?

Wongamat is smaller, greener and closer to Bangkok; Jomtien has more budget stock and a longer boardwalk. If your budget clears ฿18,000 a month, Wongamat usually wins on quality of life.
